Homeschool Day at the Capitol

Last week we participated in the Education Alliance's Homeschool Day at the Capitol. We joined over 750 fellow homeschoolers at the Capitol building in Little Rock. Part of those homeschoolers we joined were our good friends, the Mashburns, and some new friends, the Tims. We had a great day.
After registering and dropping off goodies for our State Senator and Representative, we headed for a tour. The stained glass version of the state seal was interesting to some little girls.
Part of the tour included visiting the State House and State Senate galleries. Ty had a front row seat and participated well in the discussion by our guide.

The Governor's reception room was beautiful. You know you have more that the average number of children when discussion at lunch turns to how much all three families would love to have the conference table for a dining table!
We ended our time on at the Capitol complex with a visit to the beautiful golden doors. The doors are made of bronze. The have greatly appreciated in value so much the the public is not allowed to enter or exit through those doors. Griffin was a bit dramatic. It was a chilly, wet day but it wasn't near as cold as he likes to act.

Relationship trends in our nation

I was looking through my Facebook profile the other day. Ty's birthday hadn't been accounted for so I still had him listed as 6. :)

As I was browsing, the relationship status portion caught my eye.

Under the listing of to whom I am wed - it says "Cancel Relationship".

That phrase got me to thinking. We have become a society of easy. If it isn't easy, then quit. We can de-friend someone with one click, we cancel marriages with the movement of a finger, we walk out on children because the government will "take care of them".

Honestly, I'm not a real political person but the politics of late have really hit home. As a society, everyone wants someone else to shoulder the load. Free food, free housing, free health care. What has happened to caring for yourself and family? I was listening to the radio lately and a woman called in that had been receiving unemployment benefits for over a year. She felt the new proposal to extend benefits to 99 weeks was a step in the right direction but still not enough. The radio host asked her several questions which lead to her stating "I will not deliver pizzas". Why not? It's better to free load off the government than provide for yourself? I understand that pizza delivery boys don't make the income of a former professional. But unemployment benefits aren't that great either. When/How did we become a society that has decided that certain things are beneath us? Why is any individual "above" so much? That person is beneath me, that job is beneath me, that car is beneath me, that store is beneath me - Where does it stop?

Relationship difficult - push a button and it's over, no job - rely on the government instead of taking on a undesirable job, don't have the finer things - charge it on a card and then default. What a sad state of affairs.

The Ant and The Grasshopper - New Version

I came across this on the blog MommyLife and thought it was too good to not share.

THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

OLD VERSION

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

NEW VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be theant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

Reason #89071234097 that we no longer vaccinate

I'm looking for a way to post this where the links work. I wanted the text on the blog. Update : Click here to read it as originally written with all links working. Every facet of this article is documented. All bolding and large print is my emphasis.

In the last 2 years, Ben and Henry are the only children of mine that have seen a MD. Ben had a mysterious rash I was having trouble getting rid of and Henry went to be established as a patient. Ben was vaxed to about 4-6 months. Henry has only had one blood draw or poke. (I'm pretty certain Madisyn and Ty haven't been in almost 3 years.)

I believe that modern medicine has it's place. I believe that doctors have saved countless lives. If there is something wrong, I seek help. I also believe that so called "preventative medicine" has cause many problems. However, the best preventative for childhood diseases (and adult!) is a healthy diet and exercise. We eat whole fat foods, cook most things from scratch, use the whole food (real whole grain, ground fresh) and have regular outdoor play. In the winter the kids take vitamin C, fish oil (not cod liver- ours is Vitamin A and D free) and a multivitamin daily. We drink raw milk when available and organic when we can't get raw.

I have read and recommend The Vaccine Book by Dr. Robert Sears (the famous Dr. Sears' son). It is complete book that tells what is in each vaccine, the dangers in the disease it prevents, the dangers with the vaccine, and the treatment if the disease is contracted.

Historical Data Shows Vaccines are Not what Saved Us
Friday, October 09, 2009
by: Richard Stacel, citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) With all of the hype surrounding the H1N1 swine flu virus lately, everyone is very concerned with the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, and rightly so. This is a very important question that we must all ask ourselves and find out what the truth is. As the debate rages on an even more important question has rarely been asked. Do vaccines even protect you from the viruses and illnesses that they claim to?

If you only get your news and information from mainstream news and educational sources, then the question about whether vaccines are effective is never even raised. This lack of discussion give the perception that they are so effective that only a crazy or ignorant person would even think otherwise. Of course that is the perception that they are trying to get across to you, but that is far from the truth. In fact if you take a look at some of the historical facts on the effectiveness of vaccines you will begin to see that not only did they too often not protect people from the very diseases that they claimed to but they actually caused outbreaks of those same diseases they were hyped to prevent.

From vaccinationdebate. com website

Take a look at some of the historical data below showing various vaccination programs and the outbreak of that very disease either immediately to several years later.

In 1871-2, England, with 98% of the population aged between 2 and 50 vaccinated against smallpox, it experienced its worst ever smallpox outbreak (emphasis by Stacy) with 45,000 deaths.

During the same period in Germany, with a vaccination rate of 96%, there were over 125,000 deaths (emphasis by Stacy) from smallpox. (The Hadwen Documents)-

In Germany, compulsory mass vaccination against diphtheria commenced in 1940 and by 1945 diphtheria cases were up from 40,000 to 250,000. (emphasis by Stacy) (Don`t Get Stuck, Hannah Allen)-

In the USA in 1960, two virologists discovered that both polio vaccines were contaminated with the SV 40 virus which causes cancer (emphasis by Stacy) in animals as well as changes in human cell tissue cultures(emphasis by Stacy). Millions of children had been injected with these vaccines. (Med Jnl of Australia 17/3/1973 p555)-

In 1967, Ghana was declared measles free by the World Health Organization after 96% of its population was vaccinated. In 1972, Ghana experienced one of its worst measles outbreaks with its highest ever mortality rate. (emphasis by Stacy) (Dr H Albonico, MMR Vaccine Campaign in Switzerland, March 1990)-

In the UK between 1970 and 1990, over 200,000 cases of whooping cough occurred in fully vaccinated children. (emphasis by Stacy) (Community Disease Surveillance Centre, UK)-

In the 1970`s a tuberculosis vaccine trial in India involving 260,000 people revealed that more cases of TB occurred in the vaccinated than the unvaccinated. (emphasis by Stacy) (The Lancet 12/1/80 p73)-

In 1977, Dr Jonas Salk, who developed the first polio vaccine, testified along with other scientists that mass inoculation against polio was the cause of most polio cases (emphasis by Stacy) throughout the USA since 1961. (Science 4/4/77 "Abstracts" )-

In 1978, a survey of 30 States in the US revealed that more than half of the children who contracted measles had been adequately vaccinated. (emphasis by Stacy)(The People`s Doctor, Dr R Mendelsohn)-

In 1979, Sweden abandoned the whooping cough vaccine due to its ineffectiveness. Out of 5,140 cases in 1978, it was found that 84% had been vaccinated three times! (emphasis by Stacy)(BMJ 283:696-697, 1981)-

The February 1981 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that 90% of obstetricians and 66% of pediatricians refused to take the rubella vaccine.-(emphasis by Stacy)

In the USA, the cost of a single DPT shot had risen from 11 cents in 1982 to $11.40 in 1987. The manufacturers of the vaccine were putting aside $8 per shot to cover legal costs and damages they were paying out to parents of brain damaged children and children who died after vaccination. (emphasis by Stacy)(The Vine, Issue 7, January 1994, Nambour, Qld)-

In Oman between 1988 and 1989, a polio outbreak occurred amongst thousands of fully vaccinated children. (emphasis by Stacy) The region with the highest attack rate had the highest vaccine coverage. (emphasis by Stacy) The region with the lowest attack rate had the lowest vaccine coverage. (emphasis by Stacy) (The Lancet, 21/9/91)-

In 1990, a UK survey involving 598 doctors revealed that over 50% of them refused to have the Hepatitis B vaccine (emphasis by Stacy) despite belonging to the high risk group urged to be vaccinated. (British Med Jnl, 27/1/1990)-

In 1990, the Journal of the American Medical Association had an article on measles which stated, "Although more than 95% of school-aged children in the US are vaccinated against measles, large measles outbreaks continue to occur in schools and most cases in this setting occur among previously vaccinated children." (emphasis by Stacy)(JAMA, 21/11/90)-

In the USA, from July 1990 to November 1993, the US Food and Drug Administration counted a total of 54,072 adverse reactions following vaccination. (emphasis by Stacy) The FDA admitted that this number represented only 10% of the real total, (emphasis by Stacy) because most doctors were refusing to report vaccine injuries. In other words, adverse reactions for this period exceeded half a million! (National Vaccine Information Centre, March 2, 1994)-

In the New England Journal of Medicine July 1994 issue a study found that over 80% of children under 5 years of age who had contracted whooping cough had been fully vaccinated.- (emphasis by Stacy)

On November 2nd, 2000, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) announced that its members voted at their 57th annual meeting in St Louis to pass a resolution calling for an end to mandatory childhood vaccines. The resolution passed without a single "no" vote. (Report by Michael Devitt)

From NaturalNews website

Scientific evidence links vaccinations to chronic fatigue, autoimmune disorders, aids, learning disabilities, and other health problems.Viera Scheibner notes that the annual death rate in Europe prior to 1940 from diphtheria was "negligible (less than 300 deaths per million)." After this date, when mass vaccinations against the disease were begun, "unprecedented" diphtheria epidemics followed in "fully vaccinated subjects." (emphasis by Stacy) Mass vaccinations against tetanus and whooping cough also began in many countries in the 1940s, and were followed by outbreaks of the "so-called provocation poliomyelitis.-

Conscious Health: A Complete Guide to Wellness Through Natural Means by Ron Garner

Childhood vaccinations may also be one element that contributes to allergy, in a way that is similar to the mechanisms of the hygiene hypothesis. The vaccinations that prevent childhood illnesses may actually be making children more vulnerable to allergic disorders, by changing the natural function of their immune systems. (emphasis by Stacy) Specifically, the vaccinations appear to make kids` immune systems too Th-2 skewed, with a relative deficit of Th-1 activity.-

Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies:
The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders by Kenneth Bock

While the dangers of vaccinations are greatly understated by most health authorities, the advertised benefits are greatly exaggerated. For instance, incidence of the four leading childhood killer diseases - diphtheria, pertussis, scarlet fever, and measles - had already declined 90 to 97 percent before the introduction of vaccines, due to improved sanitation and hygiene.(emphasis by Stacy)35-

The Natural Way to Heal: 65 Ways to Create Superior Health by Walter Last

Homeopathic remedies may also help reduce the side effects of vaccinations. Dr. Kotsanis makes the following recommendations regarding vaccinations: Before vaccinations, give L-glutamine (500 mg), vitamin C (500 mg), and vitamin B6 (50 mg) daily for six weeks. Give probiotics (two times per day) and aloe vera juice (2 oz in divided doses, 2-3 times daily) for three months before and after vaccinations. Make sure the child gets plenty of pure water daily.- Alternative Medicine the Definitive Guide, Second Edition by Larry Trivieri, Jr.Immune systems are even harmed by vaccinations because even though they may protect the body from one strain of infectious disease, they weaken the immune system against future strains. (emphasis by Stacy) Fortunately, there are many products to help boost immune system function. But remember: Even with the help of these products, proper immune system function requires greatly reducing exposure to synthetic chemicals and non-natural substances, as well as following the 3 principles of health discussed in the first half of this chapter.-

Natural Health Solutions by Mike Adams

After you were born, during your preschool years, you got every little cold or virus that came along, but your immune system was getting some heavy-duty instruction on things to defend against. Vaccinations, too, "schooled" your immune system. So as the years passed, illnesses and immunizations helped your body`s immune system begin to develop memories of what was body-friendly and what was body-menacing.-

The Vitamin D Cure by James Dowd and Diane Stafford

So what are some of the true reasons why disease decreased and disappeared in the last century? From his book `Health and Healing` Dr Andrew Weil said it best with the following statement;"Scientific medicine has taken credit it does not deserve for some advances in health. Most people believe that victory over the infectious diseases of the last century came with the invention of immunizations. In fact, cholera, typhoid, tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough, etc, were in decline before vaccines for them became available - (emphasis by Stacy) the result of better methods of sanitation, sewage disposal, and distribution of food and water."

Of course each person must weigh all of the evidence and data and decide what is best for themselves and their families. (emphasis by Stacy - I agree with this statement 100%. Those of us who don't vaccinate are not uneducated. In fact, most non-vaxers I know have researched the subject much more than those I know that do. )

This information is provided to help the reader make an informed and educated decision on this subject and to come out from under the ideas that we have been led to believe that vaccination automatically equals 100% immunity to disease.

It's pays to be the boss

I came across this cartoon while reading a blog I discovered about a year ago called Mommy Life.
Isn't it amazing how many Americans are without jobs and our President is spending money like crazy. I have no problem with him enjoying the perks of his job, but to act as though the CEOs of the car companies and their lavishness is the reason we have a troubled economy when he is doing the same, is where the problem lies. If Obama wants the rich to fund "life style improvements" for the poor, perhaps he should lead by example.

Conservatives seek divorce

I ran across this today on a blog I like to read http://www.mommylife.net/ . I thought it was too great not to share.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy!

Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens.

We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall
Law Student and an American

P.S. Also, please take Barbra Streisand & Jane Fonda with you.

Tax cuts

I wanted to add that I did NOT write this. I came across it on another blog http://mommylife.net/ and it was from an unknown author.

Our tax system explained in terms of beer

A brilliant explanation of our tax system using actual percentages, the impact of a tax cut, and the public reaction that everyone should be able to understand.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.

The fifth would pay $1.

The sixth would pay $3.

The seventh would pay $7.

The eighth would pay $12.

The ninth would pay $18.

The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. 'Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so the first four men were
unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'
They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so -

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).

The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings.

The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).

The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 ( 22% savings).

The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
